A lot of really amazing blog posts have come out of the 39th Annual SCBWI summer conference. So I won’t post on all of the great advice I received while there—not for the moment, anyway. But I thought it would be great fun to post some photos. Only problem is, I seem to remember being in a lot of photos, but there weren’t so many on my camera, so please, if you took some of me, email them to me! I’m quite curious to see them, especially if you were in the photo with me and you are shorter than me. That’s always refreshing.
You know I actually thought I was tall growing up? Yeah, For real. All 5’4” of me. I still buy myself trousers that I end up tripping over. I’m pretty sure there’s a name for this disorder.
Our first breakfast in the hotel—good gawd, one of the most expensive breakfasts ever. But totally priceless company. From the left: Sherrie Petersen, Casey McCormick, Me, Shelli Johannes-Wells, Sara Mcclung. *Sigh* I love them.
Wine and Cheese Reception
Top: With the Fab Kimberly Derting (THE BODY FINDER)
Right: With the Sweetalicious Kiersten White (PARANORMALCY)
P.S. We spent so much time with hearty-heart Shannon, that we might as well have been roomies. Heather and Jessica? Also fabulous.
With the lovely Sherrie Petersen, aka Solvang Sherrie. It took Casey telling me Sherrie’s blogger name for me to realize I already knew her. Thank goodness for Casey and Sara. They kept me afloat. By the way, LOVE Sherrie.
At the tail end of the Heart and Soul Ball.

OMG, I got to meet Lisa and Breeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!
Top: Golden Kite Luncheon with the girls!!! Right: Casey and Sara. Try to guess where they are. P.S. I Heart Roomies.
Top left: Not a flattering photo of me, but wanted to show you how we just could not stop laughing, pretty much the whole conference.
Right: With super sweetie Dana Elmendorf. Ran into so many awesomes at this one!
Bottom left: Leaving an imprint so Casey won’t forget me.
Okay, so it turns out I have a lot of pictures. Some with others you might recognize. So, if you want to see more, friend me on Facebook.
P.S. A little story for you.
Okay, so my flight got into LA around 11:40. Yeah, PM. After waiting ages for my luggage, it took me forever to figure out where the shuttle stop was, and then the guy tells me it’ll be at least an hour before the shuttle comes because of the traffic (what?! After freaking midnight??) So, okay, I take a taxi. $$$$ Ouch. But when I arrive in the hotel room, somewhere after 1 AM, Sara and Casey, poor things, were sound asleep. Now, Sara and I have met in person before. So, I thought I’d just crawl into bed with her, no problem. But, dear Sara is in the middle of the bed. And dear Sara is not stirring at all, not even with all the racket the bell hop makes. But Casey on the other hand wakes. So I say to her,” Hi Casey! So glad to meet you!” Big hugs exchanged. I take one last glance at Sara’s bed. No go, she’s out cold (jet lag is serious business, people). So, I ask Casey if she minds if I sleep with her. Of course, being the sweetness that she is, she says no problem. So I crawl in with her and fall asleep… after a few laughs, that is, which probably weirded Casey out. But I couldn’t help myself. Because Casey was just so accommodating, sleeping with me on our first date.
[Cue punch line drum sound effect]
Hopefully Casey finds that joke as funny now as she did at 1:30 AM.
P.P.S. The best reason to go to a conference? Aside from all that learning and networking? The crazy things that happen and the private jokes that cannot be repeated.
P.P.P.S The night is beautiful! YOU are BEAUTIFUL!!!!
(See? Private jokes. Let’s go to conference together and make our own private jokes.)
(That is not code for anything untoward. I really just meant a private joke.)
(Parentheses are cool.)
